Um El Leil, a mother of five from Deraa, has been living in Zaatari camp for 5 months and told WFP that she is thrilled to take this special Ramadan food ration home to her children. Every family in Zaatari camp is receiving this 38 kg food package, a Ramadan gift provided the Saudi Relief Committee, which contains a variety of 18 food items including dates, jam, juice, canned food, tea and olive oil.

WFP Jordan Emergency Coordinator and Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Jordan Mr. Fahid Abdel Mohsen Al Zaid discuss the food security situation and options for assistance to Syrian refugees in Jordan as well as Syrians who remain inside the country. Back in 2008, at the height of the global food crisis, Saudi Arabia donated US$500 million to WFP – the single largest cash donation ever made to a UN agency.

Fatena awaits transportation from the WFP food distribution point to her tent. Like her siblings, she attends school in Zaatari where she receives a nutritious date bar from WFP every day.  Making sure that Fatena stays nourished and healthy so she can fulfill her dream to become a doctor is a priority for WFP, and the month of Ramadan is no exception.
