WFP Poster tells story of food in TB treatment

The poster uses the motif of Tajikistan's famous snow-capped mountains and acknowledges the cooperation with the Tajikistan Ministry of Health and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The poster was designed by Joanne Morgante.

A new poster explaining how WFP food helps cure tuberculosis will be displayed in all TB treatment centres and medical clinics in Tajikistan in 2011.

The poster, printed in the Tajik language and showing medical staff preparing food for hospitalized TB patients and WFP beneficiaries at a food distribution, will help the growing number of TB patients in Tajikistan understand how food assistance is closely linked to the Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS).

DOTS, combined with food, give people in Tajikistan the best chance to beat the disease. WFP, in partnership with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM), launched in January a new TB treatment project under which the UN food agency will give food to every TB patient in the country registered for the DOTS programme as well as to their family members.

Below is the message of the poster in the English language:

How WFP food helps you overcome tuberculosis

TB patients need not only drugs but also the good, nutritious food containing the right quantities of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and mineral salts.

WFP food helps you gain weight and get strong in order to be able to take all the drugs every day during the six months of DOTS therapy.

WFP food stops you and your family from going hungry during your recovery from TB.

WFP food gives your family food to eat while you are unable to work.

WFP food is given to TB hospitals to cover every patient getting treatment under the DOTS programme.

WFP food is given free to every DOTS patient and their family if they take their drugs every day for six months.

Register for DOTS. It’s free. Call your doctor. Get WFP food. Get rid of TB.
