World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

DRC refugees await WFP assistance at Rwamwanja refugee settlement in Uganda. WFP is supporting more than  145,000 refugees in Uganda, nearly 40 percent of whom arrived this year.

 

The Japanese grant is helping WFP give assistance to refugees at reception centres, in nutrition clinics and in their settlement villages.
 

A refugee mother waits for her share of  maize meal bought by WFP with funds from Japan. The donation has also covered the purchase of  maize grain and beans.

 

Another mother waits in  line for her share of the food bought with Japanese funding. The WFP food basket consists of  cereals, beans, vegetable oil, blended foods for children and iodized salt.
 

Family representatives are required to line up according to their size number  to receive their food from WFP’s partners.

Re-opened recently by the Uganda Government to accommodate the latest  DRC refugees, Rwamwanja has nearly 32,000 people on full WFP rations.

 

WFP and partners make sure to have this on display so the refugees can  voice any complaints they may have.

 

The Japanese ambassador to Uganda, Kazuo Minagawa, attending a recent food distribution in Rwamwanja. He said he was pleased with the way WFP had distributed the food purchased with the Japanese donation.
