WFP Burkina Faso has found an innovative use for old WFP food sacks: turning them into school bags for children in  the schools supported by WFP through the School Feeding Programme. In a few months, the 8,000 school bags, made by local artisans, will be completed and distributed to the students in the last two classes of primary school.

Through this initiative, WFP will recycle about 10,000 old and unusable food sacks, helping to keep the environment clean.

Furthermore, the partnership with the local artisans will give work to about thirty specialists in the production of handmade bags for three months.

"I have never received such a big order in my twenty-year working life. I am very happy with the trust WFP gave to me and my workmates,” said Bakary Ouattara, one of the local artisans. “And I am sure that the children of the Sahel will be very happy too.”
