World Food Programme Fighting Hunger Worldwide

Approximately 60,000 Malian refugees have fled to Burkina Faso. Many fled by foot, bike or on donkey. 90% are currently in the Sahel region, already plagued by water and food scarcity. As part of its emergency response, WFP assists both the Malian refugees upon arrival as well as the host population already badly affected by the ongoing food crisis.

Burkina Faso: Most of the refugees arriving from Mali are women and children. Upon arrival, many children urgently need nutritious food. WFP supplies that.

At the Mentao refugee site, WFP is distributing rations of rice, oil, pulses and a fortified mix of corn and soya called "Super Cereal".

Nutrition assistance is taking place at the host population of Ingani, where children and pregnant under 5 and nurning women are given rations of Super Cereals.

The host population of Ingani  is registered within WFP activities to ensure the continuity of the assistance throughout the ongoing food crisis and refugee crisis.

Thanks to donations WFP is able to assist both refugees and local populations in the Sahel region. Continued support of donors is needed to ensure lifesaving operations to respond to these combined crises.
