On 14 August, a local NGO AFDR held a ceremony for the launch of a reforestation campaign in the north region of Burkina Faso. The reforestation campaign is part of WFP’s cash for asset activities. Pictured above is Mamadou Diouf, WFP Deputy Country Director on the far right and on the right, Dr Amadou Sidibé, Director of Market Development of agricultural products at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. The theme of the campaign is: "Reforestation to improve soil quality and boost agricultural production."
Mamadou Diouf, WFP Burkina Faso Deputy Country Director, makes a speech at the launch ceremony. " WFP is determined to improve food security, increasing access of vulnerable households to a sufficient and varied diet. Working with farmers, through activities such as this one, is crucial in this effort”, he said.
Tree planting by Mr. Aboubacar Relwendé Sawadogo, President of the North region Council, in front of some officials and, Cissin villagers. Trees will be planted by the beneficiaries of WFP Cash for Assets activities alongside the stone walls they built earlier in the year. The trees will protect the fields against runoff and soil erosion.
