We're fighting hunger, come with us
We're on the road with a consignment of high energy biscuits, bound for the flood-stricken Philippines. Martin Penner takes us along as he follows a consignment of the biscuits from the factory in Turkey to the Filippino beneficiaries on an island south of Manila.
On the first part of his voyage to the Philippines, Martin sees the high energy biscuits come off the conveyor belt in Turkey and travels with them on their 11-hour flight to Manila. Ever wanted to know what the seating arrangements are like on a cargo plane? Find out.
In the second part of Martin's 'biscuit mission', we visit the WFP headquarters in Manila to learn some more about the emergency. We see what happens on an assessment missions and we follow a ton of high energy biscuits to an island which has been hit hard by flooding. And we see Martin make his personal delivery.
In the third episode of On The Road - Philippines, Martin goes to Pasig, one of the poorest parts of the capital. It was hit badly by the flooding and even a month later there was still water everywhere. We talk to Joralyn, a mother of three who explains why her WFP rice ration is so important. We also see Martin narrowly avoid a swim in the Pasig river.
