As the second semester of 2008 begins, the World Food Programme is focusing its attention on the more than 81 million beneficiaries requiring food assistance. The total cost of 2008 activities with 4.9 metric tons of food is just over US$4.78 billion.

At the beginning of 2008, the World Food Programme has identified some 73 million people who will require food assistance. The total cost of planned activities with 4.7 million metric tons is US$3.8 billion.
