Royal DSM is a global sciences company and a world leader in the field of nutrition. DSM joined forces with WFP in 2007 to form the "Improving Nutrition, Improving Lives" partnership, lending its expertise to help improve the nutritional value of the food WFP distributes to those in need.
With the partnership renewed in 2013 for an additional three years, DSM and WFP will seek to double the number of people who benefit from improved nutrition, from the current annual reach of 15 million to 25-30 million per year by 2015.
DSM combines technical and scientific expertise with high nutrient products and financial assistance to increase the micronutrients in WFP's food basket. The partnership has taken advantage of DSM's research and development into food fortification to create new nutritious products such as micronutrient powders and fortified rice. These projects help WFP do more than just delivery food; WFP aims to provide the best quality foods to fight hunger and prevent micronutrient deficiencies in vulnerable communities.
WFP and DSM have launched an online campaign to grow WFP's Facebook community and raise awareness about hunger -- the world's greatest solvable problem. For every person who "likes" WFP's Facebook page between 17 July and 8 August, DSM will donate the value of a nutritious school meal to WFP. This campaign will raise a minimum of 40,000 school meals.
