One of the emergency telecoms kits developed by Luxembourg as part of a global platform,, which was launched in New York on Wednesday. The large white balloon acts as a V-Sat dish which, coupled with the other equipment in the picture, enables life-saving voice and data communications to be set up as soon as a team arrives on the scene of an emergency. The entire kit, including the deflated balloon, can be transported by one person and set up in an hour. The platform was developed in partnership with WFP’s emergency telecoms unit and will benefit the international humanitarian community as a whole. Read news release | Read WFP statement
