Afghanistan, December 2002

The arrival of nearly 10,000 MT of fortified biscuits donated by the Government of India in November 2002 has allowed WFP to maintain its target of one million students.
School children in Afghanistan benefit from the FFE (Food For Education) programme. Take home rations and on-site feeding are undertaken by WFP in collaboration with the Government of the IslamicTransitional State of Afghanistan to address the impact of short term hunger on learning, school performance, enrolment, attendance and drop out rates as well as community participation.
Where there is a significant gap, WFP provides oil to girl students in addition to the regular take-home rations and on-site feeding.
