UN World Food Programme

In Sudan, WFP’s peace-building activities go beyond food. Since 2004, WFP has worked with the Government of Southern Sudan to repair 2,500 kilometers of the worst section of roads and remove or destroy more than 230,000 mines and unexploded ordinances. This has not only built the infrastructure desperately needed to move a conflict-devastated area towards economic recovery, it has also allowed more people to become self-sufficient, moving many people off our food assistance programmes.
