Summary:
Sri Lanka, Ampara, January 2005
Ampara, on the east coast of Sri Lanka, was the hardest hit region. A WFP assessment team traveled there on January 13 and discovered that much more work needs to be done. Food is being distributed, but the challenges are huge with 190,000 affected people, destroyed houses, washed out roads, and remote communities up and down the coast.
