For the fifth consecutive year, Grupo Comidas (Yum! Brands Honduras) and WFP join to ensure the food and nutritional security of thousands of people in Honduras. The campaign is part of Yum! Brands global initiative World Hunger Relief.
Yum! Brands began in 2009 the World Hunger Relief Campaign, an international initiative aiming to raise awareness and fund for the fight against hunger. In Honduras, World Hunger Relief has allowed to raise funds for more than 12.000 people, especially children under the age of 5 and pregnant and lactating women, providing them with nutritional recovery and a change for their families and their own future.
“For WFP in Honduras, establishing such cooperation partnerships with a private company strengthens the actions that are implemented in the country,” said WFP Deputy Country Director, Nacer Benalleg. “We are very grateful for the support we’ve received from Pizza Hut and KFC executives, personnel, and customers.”
Grupo Comidas Marketing Manager, Rene Turcios, stated that “Working together with one of the most credible international organizations in the country is the reason our campaign Saving Lives (Salvemos Vidas) is a success.” The Grupo Comidas executive added that “this cooperation alliance has gone beyond social responsibility, it lies in our hearts. We would like to thank every single customer and staff in more than 54 restaurants throughout the country that have united for the boys and girls of Honduras”.
The WFP’s programme for the Assistance of Vulnerable Groups reaches more than 105.000 indirect beneficiaries and covers some 47 municipalities with high rates of food and nutrition insecurity in eight departments of the Dry Corridor. These departments are Choluteca, Valle, south of El Paraíso, south of Francisco Morazán, La Paz, Intibucá, Lempira, and Santa Barbara.
