On his 88th birthday, former US Senator and presidential candidate George McGovern completed a skydive to raise awareness about hunger. The 18,000-foot jump, the first ever for the former US Air Force pilot, was recorded on video by the Skydive Space Center in Florida.

WASHINGTON -- Former U.S. Sen. and presidential candidate George McGovern completed his first skydive on Monday at Arthur Dunn Airpark, in Florida. Because it was his first time, McGovern did a 'tandem' skydive -- strapped to an instructor who made the 18,000-foot descent with him.

"I would like to live to be 100," said McGovern, "not simply to live, but to work on the things that I'm primarily interested in - the most important [being] to provide a good meal, every day, for every hungry school-child in the world. We can do that without great cost."
