Watch Hunger Stop. It’s more than a slogan. It’s a vision for what we can accomplish together. WFP’s new partnership with the international fashion brand Michael Kors, with support from Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry, will help make that vision a reality.
ROME -- A newly launched partnership with Michael Kors, a world-renowned fashion designer, and his namesake company aims to raise awareness of and raise funds for the continuing plight of the world’s hungry.
The first campaign under the partnership will also benefit from the powerful voice of actress Halle Berry, who has long advocated on behalf of vulnerable women and children. Berry and Kors are collaborating on the “WATCH HUNGER STOP” campaign, which will support WFP’s school meals programmes around the world through the sale of two unisex watch styles that will go on sale on 15 April. Each watch sold will allow WFP to feed 100 children.
“Statistics show that women play a crucial role in defeating hunger,” Berry said. “WFP is especially focused on providing assistance to women because, as mothers, teachers and entrepreneurs, they will improve the future for their families and communities. It’s an effort I’m eager to be a part of because I’m certain we can make a real and substantial difference in the lives of people in need.”
Kors' company announced in 2013 that helping solve global hunger would be the centre of its philanthropic platform. Under the partnership with WFP, Kors and his company will support WFP's work through a combination of awareness-focused campaigns, special events and limited-edition fundraising products, including “WATCH HUNGER STOP.”
“I am so proud to be joining the World Food Programme in one of the greatest global fights of our time – the battle to end hunger,” Kors said. “Millions of people all over the world are struggling to feed themselves, and their families, every day. I want to lend my voice and my efforts to this international cause.”
A public service announcement released across Michael Kors’ social media channels launched the partnership with WFP in January. Featuring notable figures from fashion, music and film stating statistics about global hunger, the PSA helped spread awareness about hunger issues beyond just the global fashion community.
“We look forward to working with Michael Kors. Together, we will generate more attention as well as much needed resources in support of WFP’s efforts to end world hunger,” WFP’s Executive Director Ertharin Cousin said.
Support from committed partners like Michael Kors is critical to WFP's work. In addition to helping WFP provide life-saving food assistance, partners like Kors allow WFP to reach even greater audiences with the important message that hunger is the world's greatest solvable problem.
