WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin has sent condolences to the Director General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, Jose Graziano da Silva, in the wake of the killing of an FAO employee in southern Somalia earlier this week.
The note, sent Tuesday, expressed the deep sadness of WFP staff over the death of a fellow humanitarian, who was working to make build a better life for ordinary people in Somalia.
Here is the text of the message:
Dear Director General
We were saddened to hear about the death of Mr. Yassin Mohamed Hassan in Somalia. On behalf of all the staff of the World Food Programme I would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. We so much appreciate the role that Yassin and his FAO colleagues have played in working towards our common goal - a better life for ordinary people in Somalia. It is a tragedy when humanitarians pay a price such as this.
