New classroom activity - Introduction to Food Force

Published on 19 June 2009

What does WFP do in an emergency situation? Whether a natural disaster or conflict, WFP is first on the ground to deal with the consequences and the last to leave after recovery. This activity gives students an overview of the hunger hot spots in the world and how WFP responds to emergencies.

By playing the six missions of the educational video game Food Force, students will follow the stages of a typical World Food Programme emergency intervention, set on the fictional island of Sheylan, where drought and conflict have combined to make the lives of the local people impossible.

Airdrops, repairing bridges and clearing mine fields are all part of the work of Joe, Carlos, Rachel, and the rest of the A.L.I.T.E. emergency response team.

Download the game and try out the activity--don't forget to  tell us what you think!
