Somalia: Displaced Family Supports Itself Through 'Food-for-Work' programme
Hawa Aden, her husband and children moved to Galkayo in central Somalia to escape the famine in their homeland. Their livelihood had disintegrated and two of the children were malnourished. After receiving treatment and rations of a fortified food called Plumpy' Sup provided by WFP, the children are now much better. Earning a living in their new home is still a problem, but for now Hawa is working on rubbish clearance as part of a WFP project that gives her a monthly food ration.
