South Sudan: Access to Conflict Areas Is a Challenge

While WFP is able to distribute food to people on or near UN bases in South Sudan, access to other conflict-affected areas is a challenge, notes WFP Regional Director Valerie Guarnieri. WFP recently launched a new operation to provide emergency food aid to up to 400,000 internally displaced people. WFP and partners have so far provided food for more than 100,000 people displaced by the violence in South Sudan, and we are reaching more people every day despite continued fighting.
