WFP And Canadian Foundation 'Micronutrient' Work To Boost Salt Iodization In Sudan

In Sudan, 22% of the population is affected by Iodine Deficiency Disorder, the single greatest preventable cause of mental retardation. This condition affects children's ability to learn. WFP is working with the Canadian foundation 'Micronutrient Initiative' to help address this issue. Salt producers in Sudan are being helped to improve their iodization capacity. WFP has provided both financial and technical assistance with industrial machinery.
