Centre of Excellence against Hunger videos

Hosting Malawi for the second time after their first visit to the Centre in March, we were delighted to welcome a high level delegation that included Eunice Kazembe, Minister of Education and Science and Technology, and Jermoth Ulema Chilapondwa, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security between 10th and 15th September. The ministers, accompanied by technicians and coordinators involved in Malawi´s school feeding and food security programmes as well as representatives from the WFP country office, came to Brasilia in order to build upon, and reaffirm their commitment to, the school feeding action plan devised in March. During their study visit the delegates were taken into the field to get first-hand experience with a programme of visits ranging across the supply chain from family farms, a farmers association and a cooperative to beneficiaries such as schools and a government-subsidised restaurant.

The Malian study visit to Brazil took place from 6 to 16 of December, 2011. Mali is one of the Centre’s priority countries and the study visit was the first activity within this cooperation between the WFP Centre and the Government of Mali, with close coordination and involvement of the CO.

WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran is in Brazil for the launch of a new Centre of Excellence Against Hunger. According to Sheeran, Brazil has one of the strongest track-records in the world of defeating hunger within its own borders. The Centre of Excellence Against Hunger will help to leverage that experience towards tackling hunger in other countries.
