This report evaluates WFP Guatemala PRRO supporting the Government efforts to address chronic undernutrition. The evaluation found that its design is based on thorough knowledge of needs, targeted beneficiaries, and the supply chain of a new food item from production through consumption. WFP developed and patented a fortified complementary food that is appropriate and locally produced, a model for activities carried out in the framework of the Purchase for Progress initiative. The number of beneficiaries assisted per year is smaller than the number planned due to ambitious target and overestimation of expansion capacities. Notable effects of providing Vitacereal is the increase in the targeted population’s use of health services and access to nutritional and health education for beneficiaries, especially the women.
