The Pakistan Education Atlas 2013 produced jointly by the Academy of Educational Planning and Management (Ministry of Education) and VAM-WFP, in collaboration with UNESCO and UNICEF, was launched on 25 March 2014. This is the third of its series, after the success of earlier versions in 2010 and 2012. The atlas was launched by the Minister or Education and was also presented to the Prime Minister of Pakistan and to Gordon Brown, UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Education at a programme in Islamabad on 29 March 2014.
The atlas informs that with an adult literacy rate at only 57 percent, almost one-half of the country's adult population is unable to read or write. Net Enrolment Rate at primary stage is 68% which means 32% children of primary school going age group (i.e. 5-9) are currently out of school.
About 64% of the primary schools have drinking water facility while 58% have latrine facility for students. About 17% of have only one classroom while 30% of the schools are with single teacher.
The atlas is available in the hardcopy publication as well as an interactive web-version which can be accessed from http://atlas.edu.pk , where users can also perform own interactive spatial analyses by choosing indicators of interest for the specific desires areas, and also look at the trends.
