Food Security Nutrition Analysis Unit (FSNAU) indicated an increase of number of people in needs. The nationwide inter-agency assessment mission led by FSNAU of FAO with the participation of WFP among other partners has concluded. FSNAU and partners shared the preliminary findings of post-harvest assessment on Friday 21 August.  The assessment indicates the number of Somalis in need of humanitarian assistance estimated   at 3.8 million, an increase by 17 percent since January 2009. The number of internally displaced Somalis due to ongoing conflict has risen by 39 percent up to 1.4 million within the same period.  Actions have been called for to increase humanitarian space and safety, which are critical in ensuring that a growing number of Somalis in need receive assistance.
