WFP Regional Impact of the C.A.R. Crisis Situation Report #19, 09 December 2015

Highlights

  • Preliminary results of the latest 2015 Emergency Food Security Assessment (EFSA) in C.A.R. show that an estimated 2.5 million people (half of the population) are moderately or severely food insecure. Specifically, 15 percent of the population is severely food insecure. This is a catastrophic deterioration compared to results of the EFSA conducted in September 2014 when 1.3 million people were affected. Against this background, the EMOP will be extended through 2016, and operational needs across the five countries will be adapted to recent assessment findings in the respective countries.
  • During the month of October, WFP assisted over 200,000 food insecure people in C.A.R. through general food distributions (GFD), cash-based transfers (CBT), nutrition support and school meals; achieving 59 percent of the target for the month.
  • In Cameroon, in October WFP delivered assistance to 209,000 refugees in seven existing UNHCR sites and numerous host villages across the East, Adamawa and North regions; achieving 88 percent of the planned monthly target.
