WFP Yemen Situation Report #15, 12 September 2015

Highlights

 

· Coalition air strikes on Hodeidah port on 18 August heavily damaged the port’s container terminal and cranes, as well as at least one WFP silo used for wheat storage and a WFP warehouse. The warehouse was empty during the time of the strikes, and 35,000 mt of wheat stored in WFP’s silos at the port have been relocated. Hodeidah port returned to operation on 26 August after being closed since 18 August.

· In August, over 1,108,000 people received over 10,000 mt of emergency food assistance in nine governorates. In September so far, WFP has reached  97,000 people in six governorates with 1,500 mt of emergency food assistance.

· The WFP-chartered vessel MV Sea Athena has discharged 35,800 mt of wheat grain of U.S. in-kind contribution at Al Saleef port in Hodeidah governorate. Part of the wheat will be used to replenish exhausted cereal stocks in Aden.
