Highlights

  • EMOP 200890 aims to assist 2 million people in November, and subject to security and access constraints there are plans to scale-up to assist 4 million people with emergency food assistance by March 2016. 
  • In October, 2,803,000 people received 30,700 mt of emergency food assistance in 15 governorates, exceeding WFP’s target of 2 million beneficiaries in October. For the first time since March 2015, WFP’s life-saving assistance reached Al Baydah governorate, a Phase 4 (pre-famine) governorate, as well as Marib.
  • As part of WFP’s response to Cyclone Chapala, which made landfall in Mukalla, Hadramaut governorate, on 03 November, WFP’s partners have begun distributing 30 mt of High Energy Biscuits (HEBs) in Mukalla that been prepositioned there. As of 16 November, 14,600 people have received HEB assistance in Hadramaut and Shabwah. WFP has also sent 10 trucks carrying inter-agency cargo to Hadramaut and Shabwah, and the WFP-led Logistics Cluster has developed a Concept of Operations outlining a coordinated logistics response to the cyclone among UN agencies. WFP and partner agencies are assessing the situation in affected areas and will respond accordingly.
