WFP has been doing electronic cash transfers since 2010 in Kenya, with a number of banks and mobile network operators. Bamba Chakula is the most cost-efficient cash delivery mechanism WFP has used so far.
In cash transfers, the biggest cost component is the assistance to the beneficiaries e.g. the cost of food. WFP regularly compares the cost of providing its assistance in the form of cash and in-kind to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
