Exploring the Link Between Conflict and Global Hunger

NEW YORK – As new evidence in the 2018 State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) shows the number of hungry people in the world continues to rise -- reaching 821 million in 2017 -- journalists are invited to join world leaders as they discuss the complex link between those increasing hunger rates and conflict.

 

What: With hunger on the rise for the third year in a row, this compelling discussion of preventing conflict and building resilient societies will address conflict and food security, including the recently adopted UN Security Council Resolution 2417, which establishes a link between hunger and conflict.

The meeting is co-hosted by The Netherlands, the United States, the European Union, Sweden, and the Rome-based UN food agencies: The Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the World Food Programme.
