WFP Executive Director Expresses Support For Global Resilience-Building Coalition
DAVOS – The Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme (WFP), Ertharin Cousin, today issued the following statement in support of the One Billion Coalition for Resilience (1BC) initiative at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Convened by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), 1BC is an initiative to mobilize resources and efforts in order to build resilience on a global scale.

“I was excited and proud to launch the One Billion Coalition for Resilience (1BC) at the World Economic Forum in Davos last year with a group of partners brought together under IFRC’s leadership.  Our mission is clear: to build the resilience of one billion people in order to create a world with Zero Hunger where people are safer, healthier and can thrive, even in the face of adversity.

“A hungry world will never be a healthy world. In order to build the resilience of one billion people by 2025, we must focus on food security and ensure that every man, woman and child has access to a diverse diet of nutritious foods. Zero Hunger is possible in our lifetimes, but we cannot do it alone.

“1BC has an ambitious goal and we must enlist the proper partners and identify the tools necessary to achieve it. The private sector is key in expanding the scope and sustainability of our efforts, and we look forward to innovating new solutions together that will make our vision a reality. It is time to invest in preparedness – to make sure that the next time that crisis strikes, even those in the most vulnerable and remote communities are able to build themselves back up quickly with minimal loss of life or assets.

“I look forward to learning about the perspectives shared in Davos today and continuing to work with 1BC to achieve concrete and lasting results for the people we serve.”
