WFP response for drought-hit Afghanistan gets £10 million boost from UK

Kabul – The World Food Programme (WFP) today welcomed a new contribution of £10 million (US$13.1 million) from the Government of the United Kingdom to provide vital food assistance for people affected by drought in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is currently facing a severe drought that has affected 20 out of the country’s 34 provinces. UK funding will ensure that immediate food assistance reaches families in need in five of the worst-hit provinces.

New contribution from Australia to increase WFP food assistance to drought affected people in Afghanistan

Kabul – The World Food Programme (WFP) today welcomed a new contribution of AUD 5 million from the Government of Australia to provide food assistance for people affected by drought in Afghanistan. This brings Australia’s total contribution to WFP’s operations in Afghanistan to AUD15 million in 2018.

US Contribution To Boost WFP Food Assistance, Local Economy In Afghanistan

KABUL – A contribution of US$20 million from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) will enable the World Food Programme (WFP) in Afghanistan to provide food assistance to more than 577,000 people in need. Nearly 70 percent of the money will be spent in Afghanistan to buy locally-milled, nutrient-enriched flour and salt.

WFP Welcomes $20 Million From USA For Emergency Food Assistance To Returnees

Kabul – The World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed a contribution of USD 20 million from the Government of the United States of America for emergency food assistance for some 550,000 returnees and displaced people in Afghanistan. This emergency operation has already been running for five months and WFP has reached 200,000 people so far.
