WFP Executive Director Visits Peru To Highlight Cooperation For Food Security And Nutrition

LIMA – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director Ertharin Cousin, will make an official visit to Peru on 26 February 2015 for high-level meetings on strengthening cooperation and technical exchanges on food security and nutrition.

Following its shift from “food aid” to “food assistance,” WFP’s nutrition projects in Peru focus on partnering with the Peruvian Government to strengthen food and nutrition programmes and for further reduction of chronic undernutrition and anaemia among children. Under Disaster Preparedness and Response, WFP provides technical support to emergency preparedness and early response processes to address emergencies.

During her visit, the WFP Executive Director will meet high level Peruvian government authorities, where she will discuss WFP’s 50 years of experience and technical expertise in the fight against hunger, child malnutrition and emergency preparedness and response and to explore further cooperation with Peru to help the most vulnerable people achieve food and nutrition security.

WFP Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean Miguel Barreto – a Peruvian national -- will accompany Cousin during the visit.
