WFP Postpones Google+ Hangout From Syria Due To Grounded Flights

ROME - The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has postponed a Google+ Hangout scheduled to take place today from its office in Damascus until Friday, 1 February at 12.00 NYC / 17.00 London.

Travel delays due to the grounding of flights across Syria yesterday have  prevented WFP Senior Spokesperson Abeer Etefa from arriving in Damascus in time for the event scheduled for today. She is currently visiting WFP operations in northeast Syria.
The event was postponed to allow Etefa  to access the Google Hangout either from Damascus as planned or from another location with sufficient internet coverage.
During the event, Etefa will recount her experiences travelling around the country to see how WFP is assisting families who have lost their homes and livelihoods to the conflict. She will take questions from a small group of journalists and experts invited to take part in the event, as well as from viewers on Google+, YouTube and Twitter.
Abeer Etefa is WFP’s Spokeswoman and Senior Regional Public Information Officer for the Middle East & North Africa region. Before joining WFP, she was the spokeswoman for UNHCR, the UN’s refugee agency, covering the same region. She spent six-years working for the BBC and ABC News as a field TV producer.  She tweets at @AbeerEtefa.
