A native of Japan, Ms. Kurara Chibana is a well-known model and personality. After her selection as the 1st runner up to Miss Universe in 2006 while studying Educational Philosophy at Sophia University, one of Japan’s most prominent universities, she was appointed a WFP Celebrity Partner in 2007 and a WFP National Ambassador against Hunger for Japan in 2013.

As a celebrity,Ms. Chibana has been expanding her media activities, serving as the cover model for a popular women’s fashion magazine, as well as appearing in numerous advertisements for leading companies. 

Ms. Chibana is committed to visiting WFP operations every year. So far, she has visited WFP field sites on eight occasions: Zambia (2008), the Philippines (2009), Sri Lanka (2010), tsunami-affected areas in Japan (2011), Tanzania (2012), Ethiopia (2013), Jordan (2014) and the Kyrgyz Republic (2015). She has also spoken regularly about her passion for helping the hungry through WFP in numerous media interviews as well as public events, significantly raising visibility and funds for WFP in Japan.
