WFP intends to assist around 4.5 million people in the peak months of February and March. The number then drops substantially from April onwards as the harvest begins.
WFP targets the most vulnerable: children and women headed households, households with chronically ill breadwinners, people living with HIV/AIDS, the elderly, and those with no crop or income.
WFP is placing greater emphasis in 2004 on more targeted interventions such as support to households affected by HIV/AIDS, school feeding and selective feeding.
In urban areas, WFP is already reaching around 75,000 children under 5 in clinics in Bulawayo and Harare.
