In December 2015, WFP started remote phone-based data collection and food security monitoring in Malawi through the mVAM (mobile Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping) approach. Survey respondents are contacted through SMS and asked to respond to a short series of questions on coping strategies used, manual labour rates, and an open-ended question on the food security situation in their communities.
