Central African Republic's Economy On Its Knees

Food markets are collapsing in the Central African Republic as the conflict stops farmers growing food, disrupts transportation systems and drives traders away. Market places are emptying out, says WFP's Chief Economist Arif Husain, who has just returned from Bangui.  The international community needs to send money for humanitarian operations immediately, Husain says, because the crisis is effecting the entire population. Waiting will increase the cost -- in lives as well as dollars.
