Iraq: Yazidis' Escape From Mt. Sinjar

The Yazidi are an ancient religious group living mostly in northern Iraq. In June 2014, militants swept into their towns and villages -- kidnapping, raping and killing. Many Yazidis fled to Mt. Sinjar , where they were stranded without shelter, food or water. Kurdish soldiers have been airlifting them to safety but, those who reach it  must now face a harsh winter in unfinished buildings in Iraqi Kurdistan. The World Food Programme helps by giving them food vouchers and staples like rice, cooking oil and pasta. The support keeps keeps them alive and warm, and gives a little comfort to those who have lost their homes and loved ones . Text transcript of this video
