ROME – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today announced the appointment of Italian long-distance runner Nadia Battocletti as a WFP Goodwill Ambassador. Battocletti, an Olympic and World silver medalist, reigning 3,000m world indoor champion, and multiple European champion, will use her global platform to raise awareness of hunger and humanitarian crises worldwide, and to engage young people in the fight against hunger.

Battocletti has supported WFP for over a year, lending her voice to fundraising and advocacy efforts for people affected by conflict and hunger. Demonstrating strong personal commitment, she championed WFP campaigns during the holy month of Ramadan - observing the fast herself while training for her gold medal at the World Indoor Championships. She has also promoted WFP’s award-winning ShareTheMeal app, helping mobilize support from young audiences and sports fans to provide life-saving meals.

“I am honoured to be appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Programme,” said Nadia Battocletti. “As an athlete, I know how essential proper nutrition is to reach your potential. It breaks my heart to see millions of people, especially children, struggling with hunger through no fault of their own. I want to use my voice to stand with WFP and communities facing dramatic hunger worldwide, and to show that even small actions — like sharing a meal — can make a real difference.”

As a WFP Goodwill Ambassador, Battocletti will raise awareness of WFP’s work through international sporting events, media engagements and her digital platforms, encouraging fans to support efforts to end hunger. She will continue promoting innovative ways for individuals — especially young people — to contribute, including through ShareTheMeal, where even small donations can help provide meals to people affected by crises.

“We are delighted to welcome Nadia Battocletti to the WFP family,” said WFP Director of Private Partnerships Richard Wilcox. “Nadia represents a new generation of athletes who want to give back and use their success to drive positive change. Her commitment, energy and authenticity will help us reach new audiences and shine a light on crises like Sudan, where the needs are immense, but the world’s attention and resources are not enough.”
