Middle East crisis and impact on global hunger
A sharp escalation of conflict in the Middle East threatens to plunge millions more people into hunger in some of the world’s most fragile, food-insecure countries.
The emergency is displacing millions from their homes and their land – leaving them destitute and without sources of food. Globally, increased security risks, disruption to maritime corridors and rising costs are slowing down the delivery of food and other essential supplies.
The World Food Programme (WFP) warns that an additional 45 million people could be pushed into acute acute by the conflict. We are scaling up emergency operations to support families in the Middle East and beyond, as the ripple effects spread.
This crisis comes amid severe funding shortfalls for WFP, which has forced significant prioritization of programmes across all continents. Continued support is essential to ensure food reaches those who need it most.
