Middle East crisis and impact on global hunger

The Middle East crisis threatens to plunge millions more people into acute hunger in some of the world’s most fragile, food-insecure countries.

The emergency has displaced millions from their homes and land – leaving them destitute and without sources of food. Globally, increased security risks, disruption to maritime corridors and rising costs are slowing down the delivery of food and other essential supplies.

An additional 45 million people could be pushed into food insecurity due to the secondary impact of the conflict. This would be on top of the 318 million people around the world who are already food insecure.

The World Food Programme (WFP) continues to urgently deliver life-saving assistance to the most vulnerable people and those displaced throughout the region and beyond.

This crisis comes amid severe funding shortfalls for WFP, which has forced significant prioritization of programmes across all continents. Continued support is essential to ensure food reaches those who need it most.
