Achieving peace and prosperity for people and the planet is at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015.

The agenda sets out 17 action points – the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – to “free the human race from the tyranny of poverty” and “shift the world onto a sustainable and resilient path” by 2030.

SDG 2: Zero Hunger

Feeding over 100 million of the world’s hungriest people and helping millions more around the world improve their nutrition and build sustainable livelihoods, the World Food Programme (WFP) is a key player in efforts to achieve SDG 2, which seeks to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

In line with SDG 17, which highlights the need to implement and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development, WFP works in close partnership with a wide range of national and international actors including governments, other UN agencies, NGOs, private sector companies and academia.

Other goals

WFP’s activities also contribute to the advancement of other SDGs, and particularly of SDG 1 (ending poverty), SDG 3 (good health and well-being), SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 5 (gender equality), SDG 13 (climate action) and SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions).
