More than a decade of conflict in Yemen has created one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises.

The conflict, coupled with economic hardship and recurring disease, has left 18.3 million people facing acute food insecurity. Escalating fighting along Yemen's western coast is displacing tens of thousands of people, with more expected to flee as frontlines shift.

Yemen imports around 90 percent of its food, leaving families highly vulnerable to disruptions in trade routes, supply chains and markets.

The World Food Programme (WFP) supplies much of the logistics capacity for the humanitarian response, supporting other UN agencies and NGOs. Recent clashes in Al-Mokha have disrupted WFP operations, underscoring the need for all parties to protect humanitarian staff and assets and ensure safe, sustained access to people in need.

WFP's activities in areas under the Houthi de-facto authorities are suspended, in line with a pause of all United Nations operations in those locations as mandated by the Secretary-General.

WFP continues to support 1.7 million vulnerable people in Government of Yemen areas and is preparing contingency plans to assist up to an additional 1.5 million people should the conflict and displacement continue to escalate.  

However, critically low funding threatens our ability to sustain and scale up this life-saving response. WFP urgently requires US$165 million to sustain food assistance, nutrition programmes, school meals, resilience activities, and critical humanitarian services through 2027.
