TAEKWONDO CHAMPION CASIMIR BETEL JOINS WFP AS HIGH-LEVEL SUPPORTER IN CHAD
“Food, nutrition and a healthy lifestyle are vital to help youth reach their full potential – in sports, in education, and in every aspect of life,” says Mr Betel. “This is part of what makes WFP’s work so important. The school feeding and nutrition programmes that support young people from birth through their school years really resonate with me, as do the emergency and long-term programmes that ensure families have enough to eat during crises and then become self-sufficient in the long term. I am delighted to be working with WFP in Chad.”
Between 2019 and 2025, Casimir won 18 international medals, including 12 gold and 6 bronze, across African and international competitions. His most recent victories include two gold medals in 2025 at the Ethiopian Presidential Cup and the Slovenia Open, confirming his strong competitive momentum. Building on this record, he is now fully focused on his preparation for the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028.
“We are excited to work with Casimir Betel, and I know that his advocacy for better food and nutrition security will resonate with the many thousands of young people and sports enthusiasts who look up to him as a role model,” says WFP Chad Country Director Sarah Gordon-Gibson. “He is so genuine and passionate about raising awareness of WFP’s work, and he will make a real difference in communicating the importance of food and nutrition in developing future generation of Chadian champions.”
In Chad, WFP is addressing the immediate needs of the most vulnerable through emergency assistance as well as working with the Government and partners to strengthen durable, sustainable solutions for food security and human capital development.
