WFP and JT's Manukan Grille launch partnership to support Filipino schoolchildren and food-insecure families
Known for its Bacolod-style chicken inasal (Filipino grilled chicken), JT’s Manukan Grille aims to raise PHP 12 million (US$ 220,000) in a span of two years by contributing PHP 1 for every order of grilled chicken sold across its branches in the Philippines, Dubai, and Singapore. Contributions will be channeled through WFP’s ShareTheMeal platform.
“As a brand built on family, nourishment, and shared moments, we believe food can also be a force for change,” said Joel Torre, President and CEO of JT’s Manukan Grille. “Every inasal enjoyed in any of our branches becomes part of a child’s path to a healthier and more hopeful tomorrow.”
Funds raised through “JT’s Meals for the Kids” will enable WFP to reach more food-insecure households and strengthen its operations in the Philippines, ranging from school meals, emergency preparedness and response to integrated resilience-building and Government-led social protection initiatives.
“We are deeply grateful to JT’s Manukan Grille and Joel Torre for standing with WFP in the fight against hunger. Partnerships like this show how we can drive life-changing impact with the private sector. Every peso shared through this campaign helps provide nutritious school meals for children and supports food-insecure families, bringing us closer to a future with zero hunger,“ said WFP Philippines Representative and Country Director Regis Chapman.
WFP is working closely with the Philippine Government to scale up home-grown school feeding, which provides daily hot school meals using ingredients sourced from local farmers.
This year, the Government and WFP have reached over 12,000 schoolchildren in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and Isabela province in Luzon, while engaging over 2,800 smallholder farmers. WFP is providing technical assistance to support national and regional governments to further scale up these efforts.
