WFP launches Road Safety Academy, enhancing efficiency and supporting safer journeys
The academy is endorsed by Jean Todt, UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Road Safety.

Aligned with the United Nation Secretary General’s Efficiency Agenda, the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals, the academy is set to propel the UN towards the target of a 50 percent reduction in road-related fatalities by 2030 with the overarching objective being to operate with zero road related incidents.
Building on WFP’s proven track record, having trained over 6000 drivers and personnel since 2007 with participants from more than 80 UN agencies and organizations spanning 55 countries, the organization has formalized this service by launching the academy.
"The launch of the WFP Road Safety Academy marks a significant milestone not only for WFP but for the entire UN System. Positioned as the global hub for expertise, knowledge and best practices available to the entire UN system, the academy sets out to provide comprehensive driver training, fleet manager education, while further cultivating a culture of road safety across the UN,” said WFP Director for Management Services, Sara Adam. “I am excited to witness how the academy will contribute to propelling the UN's vision for road safety forward."
With a dynamic array of training modules including off-road training, advanced driver and operation specific vehicle training, each module adheres to international best practices and stringent UN safety management operations manual expectations. Currently, the dynamic team of instructors is proficient in five languages, including Arabic, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
