WFP Statement on the Release of Staff Member in Yemen

The World Food Programme (WFP) welcomes the recent release of one of its staff members who had been arbitrarily detained in Yemen and is relieved that he has been reunited with his family.

We stand in solidarity with the 72 UN personnel and five former UN personnel, including WFP colleagues, who remain detained in Yemen, and will continue to pursue every possible avenue to secure their immediate and safe release.

WFP joins the Secretary-General in calling for the release of all detained UN personnel and other humanitarian workers in Yemen. In this regard, WFP supports any constructive dialogue and engagement with the Houthi de facto authorities to build on this development and ensure further releases.
