Final evaluation of the project on climate resilience of rural households in the Dry Corridor in Nicaragua (Nueva Segovia, Madriz y Estelí) from August 2020 to March 2025

This evaluation covered the project 'Climate Resilience of Rural Households in the Dry Corridor of Nicaragua (Nueva Segovia, Madriz, and Estelí, 2020-2025)' implemented by WFP, with funding from the European Union. The evaluation found the following and presented 5 recommendations to the Nicaragua country office:

1. At the national level, the project addressed real needs and aligned with the corresponding strategies and priorities, in addition to working with a comprehensive and inclusive approach. The management system was fully adapted to that of the Country Office and was flexible and adaptive. The analysed elements generally show adequate performance, with details that can be optimized.

2. Capacities have been established in cooperatives and producers that place them in better conditions of resilience, initiating a path that still requires support and extension to amplify them and make them stronger. The participating women have strengthened their resilience capacities and show early signs of behavioural changes, lesser in their fellow producers and in the structures of the cooperatives.

3. At the regional level, shared capacities and systems were established by the participating countries, which were only partially institutionalized. The achievements obtained still require sustained support for their consolidation.

4. The project demonstrated a high capacity to adapt to changes in context, adopting different or additional strategies to achieve its results. Some good practices were identified, which would require a longer application for the consolidation of their effects in the medium term or for their extension.

5. WFP has strategic and programmatic frameworks to work on resilience, with an integrated approach and legitimacy due to its implementation and professionalism, but its articulation with other actors at the regional level could be improved.
