WFP Partners with the UAE’s 100 Million Meals Campaign to deliver Food Support to Palestine, Jordan, and Bangladesh

DUBAI — The World Food Programme (WFP), in strategic partnership with Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), has joined forces to provide critical food assistance to beneficiaries in Palestine, as well as refugee camps in Jordan and Bangladesh as part of the UAE’s 100 Million Meals campaign.

This collaboration aims to deliver food parcels to vulnerable families and individuals across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Together, WFP and MBRGI estimate feeding around 200,000 beneficiaries in these regions through innovative channels such as cash transfers and vouchers. Enhanced with biometric identification, these methods not only enable beneficiaries to access diverse and nutritious food, but also support local markets and economies. By leveraging its global expertise and operational scale, WFP is helping deliver vital aid as part of the region’s largest Ramadan food distribution initiative.

“This initiative could not come at a more pressing time. Hunger is soaring around the world – driven by conflict, climate shocks, and the impact of COVID-19. Today, more than 270 million people face life-threatening levels of hunger. We are watching a catastrophe unfold before our eyes and we must all step up to fight back.” said Abdel Mageed Yahia, Director of the WFP office in the UAE and Representative to the GCC. “Once again, the extraordinary leadership and generosity of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum is setting an example to the world. We are honoured to be partnering with MBRGI on this invaluable campaign and are confident the people of the UAE will come forward to help us reach those going hungry this Ramadan.”

The 100 Million Meals campaign, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is a tenfold expansion of last year’s 10 Million Meals initiative. It aims to forge global partnerships to end hunger and malnutrition and contribute to achieving the UN’s second Sustainable Development Goal of zero hunger.

With its extensive expertise, operational reach, and on-the-ground presence, WFP is helping to amplify the campaign’s efforts, inviting individuals, businesses, and government entities, both in the UAE and globally, to donate and provide life-saving food to those in need.

About the 100 Million Meals Initiative

To carry out the ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign, the MBRGI is collaborating with the WFP, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Humanitarian and Charity Establishment, the Food Banking Regional Network, and local charity organizations and authorities in the 30 beneficiary countries. With the help of 12 food banks and nine humanitarian institutions, MBRGI ensures food parcels, carrying basic food items, are delivered to the doorstep of vulnerable communities in 30 countries. The ‘100 Million Meals’ concluded in May with more than double its target, raising donations to provide food parcels, equivalent to 216 million meals, in less than a month.  The campaign is part of the UAE’s active contribution to global efforts to urgently tackle hunger and malnutrition, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
