Nutrition Causal Analysis Study – Executive Summary

Nutrition Causal Analysis Study – Executive Summary

Acute malnutrition in south and central Somalia remain high, with GAM rates above the 15% emergency threshold, despite significant humanitarian interventions. The Nutrition Causal Analysis (NCA) investigated the underlying reasons behind the high rates of malnutrition.

The NCA study found that insecurity, climactic and seasonal factors and poverty amongst some communities, dominant child care practices and select socio-cultural beliefs are the core drivers of malnutrition. The NCA study will inform programming decisions amongst key actors, towards strengthening nutrition sensitive programming and impact in select regions in south and central Somalia.
